For those of you who particularly enjoy the Horse sections of the show we are pleased to announce:
LIGHT HORSE CLASSES Commencing at 7.30am (to be confirmed) the following Ridden Hunter Classes will be held in the Main Ring – Small Hunter, Lightweight, Middleweight and Heavyweight with qualifying classes.
PRIVATE DRIVING CARRIAGE DRIVING In this very popular event competitors are requested to complete a drive after which the judges will make their final decision on the most Elegantly Turned Out Horse and Carriage. Derbyshire County Show is very proud that we have a magnificent entry of private driving competitors each year.
LADIES HUNTER SIDE SADDLE FINAL The pure timing and elegance of this picturesque class, presented by both horse and rider is a wonderful sight to behold and is held in the Main Ring.
LIGHT HORSE AND PONIES See the variety of horses and ponies from the tiny Shetlands to the gallant Ridden Hunters. There are all types of breeds ranging from Arabs to Mountain and Moorland, Palominos to Welsh ponies. See the beautifully turned out horses whose owners and riders have spent so much time preparing for the event.

PONY CLUB GAMES What show would be complete without the fun and skill of the young riders.
HEAVY HORSE TURNOUTS Turnouts are horses in harness pulling a vehicle, farming machine or implement. Up until the introduction of the mobile engine, all road transport was pulled by horses milk float, bread vans, removal vans and the like. Do not miss these magnificently rebuilt and restored vehicles, not to mention the beautiful animals.
For those who prefer, there is the magic about our Motoring History, which never ceases to kindle an interest in both the younger and older generation. The young inquisitive about its mystique, whilst the old languish about a part of days gone by. We are proud to present, from the majestic Rolls Royce to the humble Austin 7, a superb range of Vintage Motor Cars restored and pristine, all in showroom condition.
VINTAGE TRACTORS, ENGINES AND MOTORCYCLES A fascinating parade of tractors, lorries, steam engines, machinery and motorcycles from a bygone era all lovingly restored by genuine enthusiasts. Their static display is situated in the Countryside Area.
The Dog Show proves to be an ever popular attraction of the Derbyshire County Show with exhibitors and the public alike. Combine this with the high standard of the show and the consistent good entries producing a class average of over 5 dogs per class has once again been recognized by The Kennel Club with the Granting of Premier Status for this Derbyshire County Show. Premier Open Show’s are the Kennel Clubs latest innovation and carry Qualification in the qualifying breeds to the prestigious Crufts Dog Show 2009 to be held at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham in March. THE HORTICULTURAL AND FLORAL ART TENT We are very fortunate that Mr. William Gamble, a Governor of the Society, has in the past offered sponsorship to support the Horticultural Trade Exhibits. Because of this generosity we have been able to offer free space to our Horticultural Exhibitors and improve the prize money to the Floral Art Exhibitors.
Why not turn your spare time into a very enjoyable hobby, like we have. You meet different people, go to places you would never think of going to, and there you spend a very nice day.
We have on show many different breeds, some old ones and some new ones. If you are not sure what they are just ask the Secretary, or anyone with a stewards badge, and I’m sure you will find them very helpful and of course, if you only want a pet, there’s always someone with something in the shed at home that maybe suitable, if not they usually know someone with the breed you want, so please come and have a look round, but please do not put your fingers through the pens as they just might bite. The Poultry Section of the Derbyshire County Show has a wonderful selection of Poultry, Ducks, Pigeon and other fancy fowl. The Section Manager Mr. Les Blanchon, is always delighted to answer your questions on the exhibits shown.
The Craft Village will once again be full of all manner of local artists and craftsmen as well as those from further a field. The exhibitors have an astonishing array of products ranging from jewellery to decorative to animal portraits to soft furnishings.
Visiting the Food Hall is a unique opportunity to see, sample and buy a variety of traditional and exotic foods. Local and international suppliers are happy to display their wares for you. Usually there is an agreement to ‘buy now and collect later’. This enables you to walk around the showground unhampered by your purchases.
CROOTS FARM SHOP AND KITCHEN ‘FARMERS MARKET’ Visit the ‘Farmers Market’ marquee to see a wide variety of locally produced foods to sample and buy. With everything from smoked meats to chocolates, fresh herbs to English wine - there is enough to tempt everyone!
The Livestock Committee puts on a wide range of Cattle and Sheep Classes to cover Breed Society’s recommendations. The Section also has classes for the Heavy Horse, the Ridden Heavy Horse and an Agricultural Turnout. Jim Yates, Chairman Livestock.
Cavies [guinea pigs] are a very popular pet for all ages and most are surprised by the variety of breeds and colours. Exhibitors will be happy to answer visitor’s questions and some will have surplus stock with them available to the right homes. Please don’t put fingers through the wire into the cages as guinea pigs don’t have good eyesight and will think its food and may bite.

DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION OF WOMEN’S INSTITUTES The theme for next
year's show will be announced at the end of the
year. Demonstrators will be on hand to show their many and varied skills and the Country Markets (formerly WI Markets) will be in attendance with a selection of home made cakes, jams etc. together with plant and craft items.
Our sales team will have small items, e.g. cards, books and gifts for sale. We look forward to welcoming you into our marquee!
COUNTRYSIDE AREA:
Hedge laying is an age-old craft of maintaining hedges. Hedgerows must be kept in good order, as boundaries of fields and gardens, as windbreaks for cattle and to make a natural habitat for wildlife. Hedges are an important part of our heritage.
The Derbyshire Dry Stone Walling Association will be giving a demonstration of their craft. You will see how the stonewaller selects the stones to provide the most rigid and durable walls, which have stood the test of time in Derbyshire for many years – all without the aid of mortar. The Derbyshire Dry Stone Walling Association and the Derbyshire Agricultural and Horticultural Society are most grateful to Trent Stone and Walling Ltd for kindly supplying the stone.

DERBYSHIRE RURAL CRAFTS DEMONSTRATIONS We are delighted to once again bring the rural crafts demonstration area to the Show, which this year is located within the Craft Village, where you can see the people maintaining traditional crafts.
